A handout provided to you in the discussion section lists a firm and an industry for which you will be asked to find the most significant NAICS code. To find the NAICS code for a firm, you should use the Business & Company Resource Center on the Marshall Library page under "Academics" tab on the "http://MyMarshall.usc.edu" main menu. The Business & Company Resource Center is found under "Electronic Resources."

For the product category NAICS code, you will be better off using the U.S. Cenus database at http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/naics.html .

Part 1: Please enter the name firm assigned:
Part 1: Using the Business & Company Resource Center (see p. 6 of the "Secondary Sources" handout), please enter your subjective judgment of the most important NAICS code for the firm assigned:
Part 2: Please enter the product category assigned:

Part 2: Please enter the description of the industry code listed next to the code number:
Part 3: Please identify a question related to marketing that would be of interest to a firm.  Please discuss clearly how the answer(s) to this question would be useful to the firm.  You should choose a question of interest to you.  The following are examples of such questions:
  • Which factors determine the extent of customer satisfaction with cellular phone service providers?
  • What are some important characteristics (e.g., willingness to pay, willingness to take risk, or methods of selecting plans) of various segments of buyers of life insurance?
  • How do various sources of information (e.g., word of mouth, TV news, newspaper articles, or Internet sources) influence the decisions of professional men in their decisions on the purchase of dress shoes?
  • Is a significant number of cosmetics purchases made by men asked by their wives and girlfriends to pick up a product for them and, if so, do these shoppers experience problems selecting the right product?

You should choose a specific question of interest to you. This question does not need to relate to the firm and industry you examined in parts 1 and 2.

Part 3: Please identify a specific firm that would find the answers to the question you raise above useful in making decisions.
Part 4: Please use any two tools discussed in class (e.g., ABI/Inform, Lexis-Nexis, or the Business & Company Resource Center). Note that two articles found in the same databse (e.g., ABI/Inform) count as only one.

Please cite your sources here. You can copy and paste the biographical reference from a list of sources here. If you do not have ready access to a souce list, please indicate the name of the author, name of the publication, and year published for each source:

Part 5: Please discuss briefly the information you found and any implications for the firm:
